About Ablerex

Who is Ablerex?
Ablerex is the brand of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) produced and marketed by UIS Abler Electronics (S) Pte Ltd. We also produce high-quality power quality devices (PQD).

How was Ablerex founded?
2 years ago, Ablerex existed merely as a product name in our manufacturing office. In July 2004, our Singapore office took custody of the brand. It underwent a thorough branding exercise to carve out a strong identity and image. Singapore holds the strategic and creative directions for the brand in all aspects of the business: from driving R+D directions, to charting global sales and market directions, to determining the look and feel for the brand.

Why did Ablerex decide on a branding exercise?
We’ve always placed customers first in all business decisions. Naturally, this must be expressed through the product and brand. The exercise conveys the brand vision, mission and value proposition. At the same time, it updates the image of our company and products, keeping them consistent with messages set for our target markets. It establishes a brand consumers can relate to.

What does the tagline mean?
The tagline “every moment counts” communicates to customers the importance we place on their every moment – be it at work or home.

Why was orange selected as the main colour?
Orange is a bright and warm colour. It conveys the brand personality and core values – friendly, empathetic and intuitive. At the same time, its strong association with energy reflects Ablerex’s business in providing continuous power.

About UPS

What is a UPS?
UPS stands for uninterruptible power supply. It’s a device that allows your computer to keep running for a while longer, even when the primary power source is lost. It contains a battery that is activated when power is lost. It also provides protection from power surges.

When you are working on the computer, loss of power will cause any data in your computer's random access memory (RAM) to be erased. With a UPS, you are notified of any power loss. The energy in the UPS gives you a little more time to save your data and exit the programme before power runs out altogether. When power surges occur, a UPS intercepts the surge so it doesn't damage your computer.

You can download software that automatically backs up data on which you’re working when the UPS is activated.

Why do I need a UPS?
Normally, computers can tolerate slight changes in power. But large changes could cause the computer's power supply to fail. A UPS protects your computer and work against three main power problems:

  1. Voltage surges and spikes – These are caused by lightning or other devices in the facility. The result is a sudden increase in voltage that could seriously damage computers and electronic equipment. Such events have been found to occur up to 600 times every year.
  2. Voltage sags – These are caused by excessive demand on the utility which causes the power level to drop.
  3. Total power failure – The most dramatic power event results in a complete power outage. Studies reveal this happens 7-14 times every year.

These problems have short and long-term consequences. In the short term, you could face loss of critical data, interrupted transactions and stress to your hardware that could lead to premature failure.

In the long run, you could face a backlog of work, loss of productivity, deterioration of customer service, interruption to critical processes, loss of transactional data, loss of market share, damage to your company’s reputation, missed deadlines, damage to equipment and frustration.

Is there a need for UPS in Singapore?
Definitely. It only takes a fluctuation in power to damage your valuable equipment and data. In the worst case, these might be irreplaceable. Even if they could be replaced, the process would be expensive and time-consuming.

Blackouts are also possible where the power supply is usually reliable and stable. A few seconds is all it takes to wipe out important documents from your computer desktop.

E.g. A designer may find his week’s worth of beautifully-crafted design work purged in a split second. An accountant who finally has the accounts balanced after long hours may see her hard work vaporised by a blackout. A business owner may have to rewrite a time-sensitive proposal because it was erased during an unexpected power failure.

Time in an urban environment is preciously scarce. Every moment counts. The last thing you need is a disruption to your tight schedule because of interrupted power.

How do I know which UPS I need?
There are 2 things to consider:

  1. Check your equipment’s power requirement (in VA). This can be easily calculated by referring to the back of your machine or hardware documentation.
  2. Consider the amount of back-up time you need. I.e. how long do you need for your equipment to go on functioning in a blackout so you can save and close your documents, for instance. This determines the capacity of your UPS.

You can then choose a suitable UPS model catering to your power protection needs. Alternatively, our homepage features a user-friendly tool to help you choose the appropriate UPS.

How does a UPS work?
There are two common types of UPS systems: standby or offline UPS and continuous or online UPS.

A computer takes its power supply from the city utility. A standby UPS kicks in once it detects a problem in the power supply. At that instant, it turns on a power inverter and starts supplying power from its battery. This lets you carry on working for a while longer.

A continuous UPS contains an inverter and power rectifier. With these, it provides clean and stable power. When the city power gets cut, the continuous power kicks in immediately. Unlike a standby UPS, there is no switch-over time. This makes a continuous UPS a very stable source of power.

Standby UPS systems are more commonly used for homes or small businesses because of lower costs. Continuous systems are largely deployed in server rooms and mission-critical applications.

Do I need a technical person to install this product?
Not at all. The easy-to-read manual, included with your UPS, guides you through the simple installation steps. Should you need technical help, you can always reach us via tel: +65 6282 6535 or email: customer_care@ablerex-ups.com.sg.

How can I care for my UPS?
There are 3 main ways:

  1. Keep your UPS away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  2. If the UPS is dirty, clean with a dry cloth.
  3. Even the best UPS battery becomes less efficient over time. While our batteries are designed to last more than 5 years, we recommend you change yours every 3-4 years.
